Lovells’ London office has reaped the benefits of a recommendation from the firm’s Hamburg base, landing an instruction on publisher H Bauer’s £1.14bn acquisition of Emap’s consumer magazine and commercial radio divisions.

Corporate partner Frances Le Grys, who led the Lovells team acting on the deal, explained that the firm had done a lot of work with the company in Germany, adding that this was its first major instruction in the UK.

As part of the deal H Bauer has acquired titles such as Grazia, Heat and Closer, adding them to a portfolio that already includes Bella, Take a Break and TV Choice.

Emap turned to Allen & Overy partner Gillian Holgate for the transaction.
