Media boutique Harbottle & Lewis is heading for a show-business showdown, with managing partner Lawrence Abramson facing cross-examination in the High Court today (17 December).
The firm is suing Creative Design Art and its media magnate backer Israel Baron for breach of contract. The firm has accused Baron of deceit, negligence and fraud.
Harbottle claims it acted for Baron in a copyright infringement case surrounding the film Chopin. The firm claims Baron said bills would be paid for by a fictitious company.
Baron’s counsel, Jonathan Bellamy QC of 39 Essex Street, will question Abramson on whether a contract was signed between Baron and Harbottle. The defence claims the firm failed to clarify which company had agreed to pay, confusing CDA Entertainment with Creative Design Art.
Harbottle claims Baron used a series of similar-sounding names to confuse the firm.
