Shoosmiths has poached in-house lawyer David Jackson from global catering group Compass for its Birmingham office.
Jackson has joined Shoosmiths as a partner as part of the firm’s push to expand its Midlands presence.
At Compass, Jackson was responsible for PFI and major projects in the health, defence and education sectors. He advised on agency, distribution, franchising and outsourcing arrangements. Prior to joining Compass he was a solicitor in DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary’s commercial and projects group.
The appointment comes at a time when Shoosmiths has been in expansion mode, also hiring DLA Piper commercial litigation partner Alex Bishop and assistant Helen Pickford.
Shoosmiths chairman Andrew Tubbs told The Lawyer that the hires were a reflection of the continued growth of the firm’s Birmingham office three years after its launch.
“Our Birmingham office was established with property, planning and construction teams,” he said. “In year two we added an insolvency team and now we’re extending our services to include litigation and commercial.
“It’s always been our intention for Birmingham to become a full-service office.”
