In the 9 October issue, The Lawyer reported that Watson Burton had wrongly redirected money from the miners’ compensation fund to claims firms. In fact, the Law Society did not make such a finding. Watson Burton acted with its clients’ prior written authority and made no wrongful deductions from its clients’ awards.

Watson Burton was, however, reprimanded by the Law Society for failing to ensure that its clients fully understood the reasons for (and potential amount of) any deductions to a claims firm.
