Bird & Bird’s Italian offering has snared a star of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s Italian employment team.
Amedeo Rampolla joins Bird & Bird’s Milan office as a co-head of employment working alongside Caterina Rucci. His arrival brings the firm’s employment team up to seven.
Rampolla previously headed up Freshfields’s employment team in Milan, which at its strongest comprised six lawyers.
Before joining Freshfields, Rampolla previously worked with Bird & Bird Milan managing partner, Massimiliano Mostardini, at Arthur Anderson’s legal function in Italy.
Although a senior associate at Freshfields, Rampolla’s departure is a blow to the firm’s Italian employment practice. It is left with only two lawyers, Luca Capone and Martino Canal.
In June, five senior associates left Freshfields’ Rome office for domestic players Pavia e Ansaldo after they were told they would not become equity partners at the firm.
