The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has picked the members for its first users’ committee, nine months after CAT president Gerald Barling announced he was to launch it.


The ;Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has picked the members for its first users’ committee, nine months after CAT president Gerald Barling announced he was to launch it.

CAT registrar Charles Dhanowa said: “We’ve consulted with the Bar Council and groups of practitioners to get representatives, as well as from the regulators who feature in the cases.”

From private practice, the committee includes: Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Jon Lawrence; Herbert Smith partner Stephen Wisking; ;and ;Maclay ­Murray & Spens partner Catriona Munro. A Northern Ireland representative has not yet been appointed.

The bar representatives are Brick Court Chambers’ James ;Flynn ;QC ;and ­Monckton ;Chambers’ Daniel Beard.

The regulators’ representatives include: Ofcom head of legal Polly Weitzman; Simon Jones of the Competition Commission; and Office of Fair Trading general counsel Frances Barr.
