New York firm Proskauer Rose has launched a Sao Paulo office, marking its first physical entrance into Latin America.
Proskauer’s corporate partners Antonio Piccirillo and Carlos Martinez, who is also the firm’s head of its Latin America practice, will be in charge of the firm’s ninth office.
Allen Fagin, chairman of Proskauer, said that the firm’s work in Latin America has continued to increase to the point where a physical presence in the region was of “clear strategic significance for the firm and its clients”.
“This represents a remarkable opportunity for us to bring our resources and capabilities to bear in an area that is ripe with potential,” he added.
Proskauer also has offices in North America and Paris. Two years ago the US firm broke of merger negotiations with Richards Butler, which has since merged with Reed Smith.
