Survey points to increasing LGB prejudice in legal sector

Almost one fifth of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) lawyers have experienced homophobic abuse at work, resulting in a small but rapidly growing number of employment tribunal claims.

This is according to the preliminary results of the 2009-10 LGB Careers Survey, the most comprehensive research of its kind ever carried out for the profession and published exclusively in The Lawyer today.

The research also finds that while most LGB solicitors enjoy positive professional experiences, many are not ’out’ in the workplace for fear that this would be career suicide.
