MANCHESTER firm Alexander Harris & Co has just appointed what is believed to be the UK's first dentist-turned-plaintiff lawyer.
Greg Waldron qualified as a dentist in 1986 and practised dentistry for 10 years, paying his way through Nottingham Trent University law school on a part-time basis. He joined the firm on 8 September.
He is to head a new dental negligence department at the firm, handling claims against dentists.
Waldron, whose wife is also a dentist, said: “When I was a dentist I noticed how much poor dentistry there was, but patients don't have a clue about the quality of work.”
This is Waldron's second spell at Alexander Harris; he began a traineeship with the firm and continued it at Hempson's Manchester office before rejoining Alexander Harris last week.
There are believed to be only be a handful of lawyers who are former dentists, with Waldron the only one acting on the plaintiff side.
