Matrix Chambers is to lose founding member Nicholas Blake QC to the bench.

Blake, who was called to the bar in 1974 and took silk 20 years later, will be taking up his judicial post in the Queen’s Bench Division after being sworn in on 20 November.

The silk, who was involved in the Deepcut review, has often been at the forefront of innovation. In addition to helping establish Matrix chambers in 2000, Blake was one of the founders of the Free Representation Unit.

Clare Montgomery QC, chair of Matrix’ management committee, said: “Nick was a founding father of Matrix and will be truly missed by members, staff and clients but we wish him all the best for the future.”
