Denton Wilde Sapte has become the first major UK firm to target Africa via an association with Uganda's Kampala Associated Advocates.

It the first UK firm to establish a presence there.
Kampala has been set up by Bart Katureebe on his return to private practice from a post as Attorney General of the Republic of Uganda. Charles Morrison, the Dentons partner responsible for the firm's development in Africa, said: “When Katureebe signalled his intention to go back into private practice, we were naturally very keen to enter into talks with him.”
Uganda appeals because it offers both political stability and a growing economy. Legal cooperation throughout the East African region is moving towards harmonisation of the various countries' commercial laws.
Dentons already has relationships with Mkono & Co in Tanzania and Zambian firm Corpus Globe. Morrison said that the focus of the new firm will be domestic and international. Local matters will include banking and corporate work, while the firms will concentrate their combined energies on finance, projects and restructuring.
Morrison said: “This is a true, deep relationship. There is a huge difference in having a correspondent firm and having a firm that is part of your family.”
