We always knew in-house counsel were a literary lot. Recently, at the back of a crowded auditorium at the Commerce & Industry Group Conference at the Hilton, Park Lane, Tulkinghorn spotted a pinstripe-suited lawyer reading Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. While the rest of the assembled in-house gang listened – attentively, of course – to a lecture on the Financial Services Authority (FSA), this lover of the classics was miles away, presumably in a Gothic mansion with frightened ladies in nightdresses.
The FSA or Austen? One can hardly blame the man.
