Property and private client firm Forsters has been appointed by London’s National Theatre (NT) to advise it on the development of its South Bank site over the next four years.
It is the first time that the NT has put out such a tender and a first for Forsters, which has never worked with the theatre group before.
Forsters’ legal team is being led by partner Sophie Hamilton.
Hamilton told The Lawyer that the contract would involve advising on the necessary land acquisition needed for the development, as well as construction documentation and financing issues. In addition, the development will need advice on charitable issues.
The South Bank building, which houses three stages, was designed by Denys Lasdun and opened in 1976.
The new development will see the front of the building modernised and storage areas constructed in the back of house.
