King & Spalding ramps up US IP team

King & Spalding has continued growing its US-based IP practice, hiring partner Richard Pettus from McDermott Will & Emery in New York. Pettus, a patent litigator specialising in the pharmaceutical, medical device and consumer products sectors, is the seventh lateral hire in the past four months and the third in New York. Pettus’s hire follows that of IP litigators Tony Askew, Steve Schaetzel, Jim Johnson and John Harbin to the Atlanta office, while patent lawyers Ken Sonnenfeld and Peg Brivanlou joined New York. The hires established a patent prosecution practice in New York, which now boasts an IP capability of more than 30 lawyers. Firmwide, the IP group now comprises more than 100 lawyers and patent agents.
