Defence company BAE Systems has appointed a new chief counsel for its land systems business following Mike Elston’s move to India to become the company’s first lawyer in Delhi.
Peter Cawley, who was senior counsel at BAE’s platform solutions business, has taken over from Elston as the chief lawyer for the land systems unit, which makes armoured combat vehicles.
Elston became BAE’s first head of legal for India in September, moving to its Delhi base last month. He reports to Julian Scopes, president of BAE in India.
The move comes as the company looks to exploit growth markets abroad, with India having boosted its defence spending this year by 8 per cent.
