Reed Smith continues aggressive expansion with California merger

US firm Reed Smith is continuing its aggressive expansion plan after getting the go-ahead to merge with California's Crosby Heafey Roach & May.

It is understood that the executive committee at each firm have given approval to the preliminary terms of a deal, which partners are expected to vote on by the end of the month.

The merger with Crosby Heafey is just one in a long-line of tie-ups for Reed Smith which, over the past three years, has merged with London's Warner Cranston, Virginia's Hazel & Thomas and New York's Parker Duryee Rosoff & Haft.

A combination of Reed Smith and Crosby Heafey would create a 990-lawyer firm, making it one of the largest US mergers this will be housed together in a new office due to open at the end of the year.
