Last October, The Lawyer reported that Watson Farley & Williams had scooped a role acting for the Indian government on a massive arbitration spanning the continents. But it seems that Tulkinghorn missed the real story.

In September, a respected Indian broadsheet reported: “The government has roped in Robin Cook, the UK’s former foreign secretary, to represent its interests before a three-member international tribunal that will arbitrate in its dispute over the Dabhol power project with its foreign promoters, General Electric and Bechtel of US.”

The discovery of this news caused a few furrowed brows among Tulkinghorn’s colleagues, until a little more digging revealed the truth. It was in fact the former New Zealand Court of Appeal President Lord Robin Cooke who had been given the role. Too many Cooks, clearly.
