Gibson Dunn & Crutcher’s New York office is ramping up its media and entertainment presence with the hire of a five-lawyer team from Manatt Phelps & Phillips.

The former head of Manatt’s New York litigation group, Orin Snyder, has quit the firm to join Gibson Dunn, taking with him a group of four associates. The team focuses on intellectual property and commercial litigation with an emphasis on media and entertainment disputes and white collar defence.

Snyder counts among his clients Time Warner, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Atlantic Records, Bob Dylan, Julie Andrews and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. He reported to Los Angeles-based litigation co-chairs Barry Landsberg and Craig de Recat, both of whom remain with the firm.

Last year, Manatt reported a 10.5 per cent increase in profits per partner, with PEP reaching $1.5m and turnover rising 7.5 per cent to $693.2m.
