Despite its small size, Yorkshire-based firm Gordons offers promising career prospects to those living in or looking to move to the region.

The firm has made up six lawyers to salary partner level in the past 12 months, bolstering its partnership to 38, of whom 15 are equity partners.

Gordons boasts a mixed bag of practice areas, with the recent partnership promotions spread across the corporate, commercial property, construction, regulatory, risk and compliance, employment and private client departments.

Yet the firm is also not adverse to external hires and has recruited 11 assistants in the past three months to bolster its numbers to 170 fee-earners.

Despite this, Gordons does not offer its lawyers any alternative career paths or more traditional associate or counsel rungs on its career ladder.

Managing partner Paul Ayre says: “We are not followers of fashion.” Instead he stresses that the firm aims to offer a “stable and enjoyable” working environment.

As part of this, Gordons, which is currently integrating its merger with Bradford firm David Yablon Solicitors and launching banking and contentious practices, runs a profit-sharing bonus scheme for all staff across the firm that equates to around two weeks of salary.
