Dunlop quits post at Shaw Pittman

Shaw Pittman partner Andrew Dunlop has quit the London office which he helped set up two years ago.

Dunlop joined the US firm in 1998 from Freshfields along with Margaret Harvey, global legal head of Price Waterhouse, and Alistair Maughan from Dibb Lupton Alsop.

But Dunlop has now left the firm without another position to go to.

Head of Shaw Pittman’s London office Andrew Moyle confirms Dunlop’s departure.

He says: “It was by mutual consent. We had different ways of approaching things and they were not always compatible. It was agreed that the firm was moving in a different direction to which he was going. It was best that we went our separate ways.”

IP specialist Dunlop was a partner with Shaw Pittman. The 10-lawyer London office practises technology law, specialising in UK and international IT and outsourcing projects.

Weil Gotshal & Manges London managing partner Mike Francies says the firm has considered Dunlop.

But he adds: “We spoke to him before he joined Shaw Pittman and we have had a word since he left but we are no longer in current talks.”

Dunlop was unavailable for comment.
