Weatherburn takes partner Neil Rowe and senior associate Catherine Burt, who will join as a partner, from Eversheds’ Newcastle office. Partner Paul Taylor and senior associate Peter Merchant join Beachcrofts from Eversheds’ Leeds office.
Nigel Montgomery, Beachcroft health and public sector head, said Weatherburn will be a good fit with the team. “We both consider that excellence in service delivery and truly understanding the needs of our clients must be at the heart of everything that we do,” he added.
The team is due to join Beachcroft later in the year. The departures leave Eversheds with 14 partners in its healthcare team, including heavy-weight Bill Gilliam who will be leading the healthcare sector group.
Simon Hodson, Beachcroft senior partner, said this is part of a major strategic push for its health advice and clinical negligence practice that will enhance its work on wider health matters for health trusts across the UK.
“We anticipate that this area of our business will continue to grow and there will be likely property implications as we move forward including the possibility of a Beachcroft Newcastle office,” said Hodson.
Eversheds confirmed the departures and emphasised that the firm remains fully committed to the healthcare sector.
“Eversheds market strategy continues to focus on servicing work for corporates with international and multi-jurisdictional needs,” said the firm’s spokeswoman. “We remain the only law firm in Newcastle that can provide clients with an international offering and, as such, will continue to thrive and grow.”
