As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com/lawyer news (10 April), the firm is relocating corporate partner Alastair Wyper to Aberdeen to head up the new office, which is due to open today (14 April).
Wyper said: “The firm’s already involved in a wide range of energy-related work, and the intention on opening in Aberdeen is to expand through the recruitment of local lawyers and support staff.”
The office will start out on a small scale, with just three lawyers being based in Aberdeen. But Wyper said that in the longer term, the firm would like to replicate the speed of growth that has been experienced by the firm’s Edinburgh and London offices.
Maclay chief executive Magnus Swanson said: “This move is a positive response to client needs in the North East and changes taking place in the marketplace. Aberdeen fits well with our growth strategy and enables us to build upon our many existing clients and contacts operating in the North East.”
