Personal injury lawyers hit out last week (Wednesday 8 August) at the Law Society’s stance on referral fees.
Speakers at the launch of London Accident Link, including Louise Christian of Christian Khan Solicitors, condemned the Law Society for allowing referral fees, arguing that they compromise ethical standards.
A postal ballot of members is currently underway following a resolution brought at the Law Society’s annual general meeting in July which condemns referral fees and asks for a renewed ban.
The event launched London Accident Link, which is a chain of 24 law firms providing help to accident victims. Firms involved include Irwin Mitchell and Seddons.
Other speakers included Denise Kitchener, chief executive of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, who slammed recent reports saying that there is a growing “compensation culture”.
