Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer banking partner Sean Pierce has been appointed co-head of the firm’s financial institutions group (FIG) following the departure of previous co-head Perry Noble last month.
Pierce, whose practice focuses on acquisition and leveraged finance, takes up the position alongside London partner Will Lawes and ;Frankfurt-based partner Gunnar Schuster.
Corporate head Mark Rawlinson said the FIG is by far the firm’s busiest group at the moment, adding: “Sean’s a well-known guy with lots of contacts in the sector. They’re involved a lot for the banks at the moment and on various administrations that are kicking off.”
Noble, who had been with Freshfields since 1992 and was co-head of the firm’s global finance practice as well as of the FIG, left to take up a non-legal role with former client Babcock & Brown, where he is understood to be on a short-term contract.
