Whisky company William Grant & Sons has created a global general counsel role, hiring rated Coca-Cola Enterprises legal chief Eva Bishop to lead its new-look legal team.
Bishop will join the company at the start of next year. The current head of legal, Andrew McLean, will stay on at William Grant & Sons under Bishop.
She said: “It’s a family-owned, very entrepreneurial and successful company. It’s a rare gem for a lawyer to come in. There’s lots of heritage to it.”
Bishop added that she would grow the legal team to support the business. At the moment the company’s lawyers consist of McLean, two paralegals and an in-house lawyer.
“The company now sells its products in 180 countries,” said Bishop. “In terms of size of the legal team I’ll need to see what the business requirements are.”
Bishop has been head of legal and company secretary at Coca-Cola Enterprises for four years, joining from the Royal Mail Group where she was head of competition and regulation between 1998 and 2004. Coca Cola is still looking to replace Bishop.
William Grant & Sons owns whisky brands such as Grant’s, Glenfiddich and Balvenie, as well as other spirits such as Hendrick’s Gin and Monkey Shoulder bourbon.
