Ian Barber, executor of Ernest Barber, who died on 1 June 1993, is claiming damages from Atlas Stone Co, of Meldreth, Royston, Hertfordshire. The writ claims Ernest died as a result of asbestosis, contracted through work for the company.

Writ issued by Field Fisher Waterhouse, London EC3.

North Thames Regional Health Authority is being sued over of the death of Londoner Carmen Leamy from cancer in 1993. The writ issued against the authority claims staff at Hammersmith Hospital failed to diagnose the original cancer in her right foot during treatment between 1984 and 1987 and the cancer spread to her lungs as a result.

Kenny Thomas whose record Outstanding made the pop charts has launched a High Court damages claim against Chrysalis Records over his album, called Him. The writ claims that in September 1994 Thomas agreed to provide exclusive recording services to Chrysalis and that it agreed to release his album within 120 days. However, Thomas claims that although he provided sufficient material for the album Chrysalis failed to release it. The writ says that his reputation and standing in the eyes of the public has been diminished as a result.

A Scottish soldier who was shot in Northern Ireland 12 years ago is suing the Ministry of Defence for compensation. James Wells, of Glenrothes, Fife, accuses the MoD of failing to diagnose and treat post-traumatic stress disorder which he claims he suffered after being shot. The writ claims the MoD was guilty of negligence and breach of duty.

A Bridgend teacher who was medically retired after being injured in a coach crash is suing the Mid-Glamorgan travel company he blames for the accident. David Perkins, 54, claims in his writ against Morris Travel, of Pencoed, that he still suffers flashbacks of the crash and nightmares about the accident which occurred in July 1993 as he accompanied a group of school children on a trip to Bavaria. Perkins has since been medically retired from his job.
