Denton Hall victors in Irish beauty contest

Denton Hall has beaten four City firms to advise the Irish government on privatising its telecommunications.

The government tendered for the work after deciding to bring forward the date for telecommunications liberalisation to 1 December 1998.

Dentons now has five months to help get licensing and authorisation structures in place.

It is setting up a project office in Dublin for the contract period. Nick Higham, head of the firm's telecoms practice and his two assistants, Stephen Rawson and Amanda Bannister, will have to create a system that licenses both fixed and mobile telephone network operators and all service providers to use the national telecoms grid.

In its pitch, Dentons made much of its European alliance, Denton International, which contains several telecom experts. A team from Denton International from the UK, Germany, France, Spain and China recently went on a “roadshow” in the US to try to win financial and regulatory telecoms advice work in Europe and Asia.
