Real estate deals round-up

Jones Maidment Wilson (JMW) (Peter Chape) acted for Marks & Spencer on the acquisition of its new range of Simply Food stores in the North of England. JMW is structuring deals for seven Simply Food high street stores.

SJ Berwin (David Ryland) acted for Babcock & Brown on a joint venture with a group of private Irish investors for the acquisition of a portfolio of properties from the Kenmore Property Group for £45m. Tods Murray advised Kenmore.

Lawrence Graham (Andrew Wade) advised Scottish & Newcastle on the acquisition of 357,000sq ft premises in Thatcham on a 20-year lease, for initial annual rent of more than £2.8m. SJ Berwin advised the vendor BL Gazeley.

DJ Freeman (Elizabeth Goss, Graham Barber) acted for London & Associated Properties on a joint venture with Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking to acquire King Edward Court, the principal shopping centre in Windsor. It was purchased from the Teachers Pension and Annuity Fund Association and clients of Delancey Estates for £45.3m. Bank of Scotland advised by DLA. Teachers advised by SJ Berwin. Howard Kennedy (Keith Lassman) advised Ballymore Properties on its joint venture with Hammerson to acquire the £63m property portfolio of RT Group (formerly Railtrack Group). Ballymore will acquire seven properties for £27m. Herbert Smith advised Hammerson. RT Group advised by Ashurst Morris Crisp.

Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw (Iain Thomas) advised Key Property Investments on the acquisition and leaseback of a portfolio of properties from Alstom for around £112m. Alstom advised by Lovells.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (John Fordham) advised Morgan Grenfell Private Equity, owner of the Laurel Pub Company, on the £318m lease and leaseback of 280 of its managed pubs to private property company London & Regional, funded by Nomura International.
