Collins Newman is one of Botswana's leading corporate and commercial firms, with four partners and clients that include Barclays, First National Bank of Botswana, Debswana Diamond Co, and Botswana Telecoms.
The firms have worked together on a number of deals, including a current deal in which they are acting for the Botswana Ministry of Energy on the privatisation of the Botswana Power Corporation.
As with the other alliances in Dentons' African network, the Collins Newman tie-up is not exclusive. However, Dentons energy partner Paul Bugingo, who has been working on the tie-up, said that Dentons will always be the first port of call for referrals.
Botswana, unlike many other African countries, is relatively cash rich, with foreign reserves exceeding £6bn.
Bugingo said: “The electricity is part of the privatisation that's just kicking off in Botswana.”
•Dentons has appointed Grant Henderson as regional coordinator for the sub-Saharan network. Henderson has been based in Zambian office Corpus Globe for six months. His role will be to provide on-the-ground assistance between Dentons in London, the international alliance and the African network. Also, the Ugandan office Kampala Associated Advocates has appointed Uganda's former solicitor general Peter Kabatsi to the firm.
