Masons has bolstered its data protection team by poaching the Data Protection Registrar's chief legal adviser.
The move is Rosemary Jay's first foray into private practice. She joined the registrar 12 years ago from Stockport Council.
She says: “I have been doing the same thing for a number of years and it got a bit stale. I got itchy feet and wanted room to grow.”
Jay joins Masons' Manchester office as a senior consultant. Head of the data protection team Shelagh Gaskill says of Jay's position within the group: “We did that because Rosemary is new to private practice.
“But the point is that when you take on someone with her experience and seniority you have to give them a title that puts them alongside your existing structure.”
The firm has also appointed consultant Chris Pounder to the team.
He joins from Cap Gemini, where he was head of its information privacy consultancy. He will be based in the London office.
