Leading in-house lawyers group the Chief Legal Officers (CLO) Programme is preparing to expand its remit by moving into political lobbying.
The group, which counts more than 100 general counsel among its members, is looking at ways it could exert political influence and is also examining how it could use its influence with law firms to promote members’ interests.
CLO Programme chair Sandie Okoro, head of legal at Baring Asset Management, said: “We’re looking at being more active in terms of lobbying than we have been in the past.”
As a first step the group is holding a conference at the end of April entitled ‘Political Influence and the General Counsel’.
The CLO Programme is run by networks and research company Winmark. Its members include Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation general counsel Randal Barker and Royal London Group legal director Chris Aujard.
In January the group launched a guide to creating a legal panel for its members in a bid to standardise the process.
