Staying with all last week’s parties, Ince & Co pulled in around 600 revellers to drink green cocktails and champers at its new St Katharine Docks home. Like FFW’s bash, the views were pretty spectacular, with the Tower of London basking in the late evening light.
Most people’s eyes, however, were on Piraeus senior partner Jon Elvey, who was thundering (as opposed to tinkling) the ivories in the lobby. Elvey is a bona fide jazz pianist, who took a year out to study his craft in New York, and is credited as the keys man on a Paul McCartney (and… er… Heather Mills) track.
Sadly, Elvey’s footstomping style was not so much in demand after a recent gig in the bar at Pont de la Tour restaurant. The room was directly adjacent to the restaurant. After Elvey finished rocking the place the maître d oozed up, thanked him, then knocked him dead with the immortal line: “You’ll never play in this bar again.”
