  • Uxbridge-based IBB Solicitors has appointed criminal defence specialist Paul Mason as a partner in its business investigations and governance team. He joins from TV Edwards in London.

  • US firm Heller Ehrman has bolstered its New York office with the appointment of Robert Buehler, the former head of the organised crime and terrorism unit of the Southern District US Attorney’s Office.

  • East Anglian firm Kester Cunningham John has strengthened its family law team with the appointment of Fiona Bethel as a specialist family consultant from Taylor Vinters in Cambridge.

  • Manchester firm Donns has promoted both Elen Evans and Tyrone Forrest to associate in the firm’s personal injury team.

  • US firm Debevoise & Plimpton has promoted tax specialist Matthew Saronson to the partnership in its London office. The promotion will come into effect on 1 July.

  • US firm Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton has bolstered its San Francisco office with a double raid on Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Maureen Corcoran, a former chair of Pillsbury’s healthcare group, joins as a partner, while Keith Gercken becomes a partner in the tax, employee benefits, trusts and estate planning practice.

  • Hunton & Williams has appointed Nadia Burgard as a lending and restructuring partner in New York. Burgard joins from O’Melveny & Myers, where she was a partner.

  • Thomas Eggar has promoted several lawyers: Esther Smith and Dawn Stallwood have become partners; Catherine Angel has been promoted to manager (equal to partner status); Alice Dixie, Marcelle Turner, Caroline Shelton, Lloyd Junor, Garry Ramsden and Sanjit Virdee have all risen to associate level.

  • Midlands firm Browne Jacobson has expanded its medical negligence team with the hire of partner Ian Long from Weightmans.

  • Former BBC Radio Leeds ‘Legal Eagle’ James Thornton has joined Leeds-based firm Fox Hayes as a partner in its family department. Thornton qualified in 1996.

  • Bond Pearce has made associates Joanne Rumley and Will Akerman partners in its banking and restructuring and commercial property teams respectively.

  • West Midlands firm Anthony Collins Solicitors has promoted Hilary Harrison and Andrew Millross to the partnership in the commercial dispute resolution and projects teams respectively.

  • Birmingham firm BPE has promoted Andrew Taylor, head of insolvency and corporate recovery, to the partnership.

  • Berwin Leighton Paisner has beefed up its IP practice with the hire of Laura Ashley general counsel Natasha Aziz, who joins the firm as a solicitor.
