East Midlands firm Howes Percival is planning to ramp up its corporate and commercial capabilities in East Anglia following the hire of former WilmerHale partner and non-executive director of Ofcom Stephanie Liston.
Liston is renowned in the telecoms sector after a career in which she has has enjoyed spells at Fulbright & Jaworski, MCI, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Baker & McKenzie and McDermott Will & Emery. Liston left WilmerHale after her appointment to the Ofcom board meant that she could no longer advise regulated companies.
Liston said: “I’m returning to my roots as a garden-variety corporate lawyer and will help to build a new business.”
Howes Percival will now go head-to-head with Mills & Reeve for the cream of East Anglia’s corporate and commercial work.
“Since Eversheds downsized, there’s very little competition for Mills & Reeve. With the best will in the world, they can’t do everything,” said Liston.
The firm has a partner and an associate in Norwich and is planning to recruit as the business grows. It will also use resources from its teams in Leicester, Milton Keynes and Northampton.
Liston, who has a house in Suffolk, works up to two days a week with Ofcom and will be working four days a week at Howes Percival.
