Annual bonuses based on profitability of the firm, personal non-financial performance and personal financial performance. Valued at up to 20 per cent of basic salary.

Fee-earners have appraisals twice yearly to review performance, set objectives and discuss career. Pre-appraisal meetings held with all partners and HR to collect feedback on fee-earners. HR follows up on any issues and produces a personal training action plan.

Partner progression
Thirty-seven per cent of partners are home-grown and there are 49 lateral partners. Youngest partner 28. Candidates are proposed for partnership and provide a paper and business case in support of their application. They then attend an interview or make a presentation to the chief executive, senior partner and up to four other partners. A full partnership vote follows.
