Salary range
London: NQ – £48,000;
4-6 years’ PQE – £56,000-plus.
North: NQ – £33,000;

No firmwide scheme, but performance-related annual bonuses are made to certain staff groups.

Quarterly soft skills training for all staff, in-house briefings and seminar programmes, external training as required, career management programme and partner development programme in conjunction with Manchester Business School.

All staff have a 360° annual performance review, assessed against consistent criteria and incorporating a scorecard approach. The review process sets objectives for the year ahead and identifies development and training needs.

Partner progression
Out of 171 partners, 133 are home-grown. The current number of lateral hires is 38. Youngest partner 27. Partner selection criteria is set using a competency framework and scorecard that is also used for annual partner performance reviews. A business case is produced for each new appointment: candidates undertake psychometric tests and an ongoing career-development plan is agreed.

Assistants 1,450. Partners 1,100.

Twenty-five days plus the option to buy or sell five days annually for all levels of staff.
