PROFESSOR Jack Beatson, newly-created Rouse Ball Professor of English Law at Cambridge University, has rejoined Essex Court Chambers after spending five years at the Law Commission.
He will combine his academic duties with giving expert advice in chambers on commercial and public law matters, particularly on financial services regulation.
"With ever increasing regulation in the financial world, common law lawyers can no longer remain immune to this particular aspect of public law," he says.
He will be lecturing at Cambridge on both administrative and contract law, where his major task will be producing the new edition of 'Anson on Contracts', which was last updated in 1984.
At the Law Society he was involved in a wide range of matters from commercial law and financial services to civil evidence and judicial review. He contributed to two reports on personal injury actions, one looking at structured settlements, the other the way successful plaintiffs use their damages awards.
Toby Landau, Paul Stanley and Martin Hunter also join Essex Court Chambers, formerly 4 Essex Court, this month.
