Bird & Bird has ramped up its international arbitration practice, hiring Sophie Lamb as a partner in the London office from WilmerHale and consultant Darren FitzGerald in Hong Kong from Australian firm Minter Ellison.
Lamb specialises in international arbitration work in the sports, media and telecoms sectors. She joined WilmerHale in 2000, where she worked with celebrated dispute resolution partner Gary Born. Lamb trained as a barrister and was previously at commercial chambers One Essex Court.
She said: “I wanted to build a practice where I have both interest and experience and I’m hoping to develop work in the media and sport industries.”
Lamb is in the middle of arbitration proceedings regarding sports broadcasting rights in Europe. Her client, an international media company, has confirmed that it will move firms with Lamb.
In Hong Kong Darren FitzGerald has joined to head the firm’s Asian dispute resolution practice and starts with two new assistants, Joanna Tan from Jones Day and Luke Ryan from Deacons.
FitzGerald has 12 years of dispute resolution experience in the Far East and specialises in telecoms and IT disputes in China.
