Allen & Overy (A&O) has bolstered its US litigation practice with the hire of securities litigation specialist Robert Knuts.

Knuts joins A&O from East Coast firm Day Berry & Howard, where he was a partner in the firm’s New York office.

He previously worked as senior trial counsel in the New York office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) where he led investigations into securities law violations and worked with prosecutors on criminal proceedings.

In private practice, Knuts has advised individuals and companies on both civil and criminal investigations into allegations of financial fraud, insider trading and other financial issues.

He also served as independent counsel to the audit committee of two public companies facing accusations of securities law violations.

A&O’s US co-managing partner and litigation head Michael Feldberg said Knuts’s experience with the SEC and working for companies would contribute “substantially” to the firm’s client service.
