Linklaters, Ashurst, Stephenson Harwood and Hempsons have advised on a deal sealing the construction of Biota, the new public aquarium to be built at Silvertown Quays in London’s Docklands. The £90m scheme is being undertaken in conjunction with the London Development Agency, Silvertown Quays and project leader Kajima Urban Development (KUD), and will be funded through a combination of charitable contributions and bank finance. Linklaters advised KUD, led by partner Anne Byrne, Ashurst advised Silvertown Quays, and Stephenson Harwood advised the LDA, led by associate Elaine Foundell. Hempsons provided real estate, charity, construction and commercial advice to Biota, a subsidiary charity of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), led by real estate partner Lynne Abbess. The firm also acted for ZSL to establish the new charity, which will be a conservation-led enterprise.
