After years of telling us they wanted to be seen more as corporations than partnerships, the latest trend for law firms seems set to reverse this. Well, that is if Herbert Smith senior partner David Gold can be seen as a trendsetter.
In the latest edition of The Lawyer Podcast, Gold outlined his strategy for handing control of the firm back to the partners. This means he, as senior partner, will no longer lay down the law at the firm, with each and every partner taking responsibility for how the firm is run: anything for an easy life.
Gold also talks about how the alliance between Herbert Smith, German firm Gleiss Lutz and Dutch firm Stibbe will be driven forward in the latter part of this year. But, against City speculation, he stresses that there will be no merger between the firms.
