Lovells offers secondments to bulk up in Dubai

Lovells is seeking to beef up its Dubai presence a month after opening in the Emirate as well as offering trainees a seat in the office from September.

From its launch on 1 May the office has had five partners, headed by banking and project finance specialist Shibeer Ahmed, and eight associates. A further seven associates, who have already been recruited, are set to arrive periodically between now and the start of October. Ahmed is also conducting further interviews.

“We’re desperately trying to get more capital markets and finance lawyers and are interviewing all the time,” said Ahmed. “We have already recruited 15 associates and expect this number to increase to around 18 or 20 by the end of the year.”

As well as external recruitment, the firm is seeking to second one corporate and one capital markets lawyer to Dubai from London for two years.

In September the office will receive its first trainee, who will undertake a finance seat under Ahmed and partners Rustum Shah and Rahail Ali, with the secondment lasting for the usual six months.

When the March rotation comes around the Dubai office will offer two seats, with the addition of a corporate trainee, under Imtiaz Shah and recently-elected partner Tom Brassington. From then on both seats will be offered every March and September.
