Staying with phones, it appears Tulkinghorn’s were under attack last week. First there was the call to a senior clerk in the Temple that was disturbed by a loud, fuzzy noise on the end of the line. It turned out the phones were not to blame – rather the power hoses being used by builders cleaning the outside of the building.
This, though, was swiftly followed by the conversation with a City PR, always a joy at Tulkinghorn Towers, where the great man somehow managed to cut her off. Apologies all round.
Tulkinghorn’s favourite, however, was the brief conversation with the unidentified voice who rang to say: “I’m terribly sorry, I thought I was calling my wife.”
