Sidley Austin Brown & Wood is finally set to launch its new EU competition practice after star hire Stephen Kinsella’s notice period ended.
Kinsella agreed to join Sidley in March but was held to his notice period by former firm Herbert Smith.
Sidley will launch the new practice in Brussels and London. It also hired Herbert Smith counsel Ken Daly and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton lawyer Kristina Nordlander.
Kinsella joined the firm’s London partnership on 3 October, while Daly and Nordlander have joined the Brussels office.
Kinsella currently serves as chairman of the International Bar Association’s Antitrust and Trade Law Committee and is a council member and past president of the British Chamber of Commerce in Brussels.
In Brussels, the EU competition team has been led by Stephen Spinks, who joined Sidley as a partner in August. Spinks was formerly Coudert Brothers’ co-managing partner in Brussels.
Sidley’s executive committee chairman Tom Cole said: “The addition of a first-class EU competition practice, coupled with the firm’s longstanding and distinguished antitrust practice in the US will enhance our ability to serve clients on a global scale.”
