Taylor Wessing is set to open an office in Beijing as soon as the green light is given by the Chinese authorities.
Taylor Wessing’s new launch is still subject to government approval. The firm hopes Beijing will complement its Shanghai office and attract Chinese companies looking to move into Europe and vice versa.
Taylor Wessing’s German managing partner and executive committee member Wolfgang Rehmann said: “We hope to have news in the coming weeks and will open in Beijing as soon as we have received the permission – we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
Taylor Wessing already has offices in Shanghai and opened a Dubai outpost in December 2007, but Rehmann insisted that the firm’s branding as a European law firm would remain and that much of the work in foreign offices would continue to revolve around Europe.
He said the firm would now keep its eye on Europe’s new member states.
