CMS property partner quits

CMS Cameron McKenna has lost its sixth property partner in two years

David Saunders, a senior player in the Camerons property department, who is responsible for clients such as John Laing and developer St George, is moving to Olswang.
Saunders is in the middle of a deal for St George on the Imperial Wharf scheme and the Camerons property department is still in negotiations with him about his clients and ongoing matters.
Camerons' head of property Edward Benzecry said: “We're working out that and other projects. He will either stay and do the work or we will take the projects on. A lot of the jobs are done by assistants as well and other partners will come in on the jobs.”
Saunders' move follows the departures of highly-rated construction and property partners Anne Minogue to Linklaters and Jon Vivian to SJ Berwin in 2001. In 2000, property partners Robert Porter and Arthur Dyson left for Clifford Chance. Partner Louise Andersen left Camerons for White & Case in 2000.
There are eight pure property partners left at Camerons, but there are no plans to replace the departed partners with lateral hires. There were no internal partner promotions made in property this year.
The property department brought in £26mi the last financial year, 15 per cent of the firm's £175m turnover. Benzecry said that he had no specific target number of partners for the department.
