Four New Square, the leading construction and professional negligence set, is appointing a new head of chambers, Justin Fenwick QC.
Fenwick replaces John Powell QC who has, for the past three years, led the 43-tenant set, which has just moved from 2 Crown Office Row.
The set has also recently poached Nicholas Davidson QC, one of the top professional negligence and IT barristers in the country, from rival 4 Paper Buildings.
Powell says the set will continue to expand through selective recruitment but not by merger.
“There is no need for us to merge with any other set,” he says.
Fenwick has highly rated construction and civil engineering, product liability and professional negligence practices.
He acted successfully for Gallaher in recent tobacco litigation and is now representing the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in actions over CJD, the human form of mad cow disease.
He is also director of the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund.
Powell will continue to practise as a tenant at Four New Square.
