According to the C&I Group, no in-house lawyer has ever been directly appointed to a judicial position in the High Court, the Court of Appeal or the County Courts.
Sir Colin Campbell, the Commissioner for Judicial Appointments and part of the LCD, has now written to the C&I Group asking to discuss solutions to the lack of in-house lawyers on the Bench.
Lara Oyesanya, C&I Group director of professional standards and head of legal services at RAC, wrote to Sir Campbell late last year lobbying for in-house judges and mounting a searing attack on the judiciary.
“The evidence from the many members of RAC who speak to the legal services department is that, on the whole, the judiciary is made up of elderly gentlemen who are out of touch with reality and who live a charmed life,” she wrote.
