Dewey & LeBoeuf has made up a total of four partners in London in the first round of promotions since Dewey Ballantine and LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae merged in October.
In total the firm has made 18 promotions across its global offices, 11 from the LeBoeuf Lamb side of the merger and seven from the Dewey side. The total is roughly the same as last year, when LeBoeuf Lamb made up five new partners and Dewey promoted 14. At that time LeBoeuf promoted two in London while Dewey made up one.
According to firmwide chairman Steve Davis, this year’s promotions were largely decided by the legacy firms’ management committees with Dewey & LeBoeuf management giving the final sign off.
“Each legacy executive committee came up with recommendations from each side of the house,” he said. “Last Thursday there was a combined executive committee meeting to discuss all the candidates. Under the terms of the original agreement to combine the firms this was the last function that was largely done on a separate basis because we didn’t feel it would be fair for the associates to do it any other way.”
Partners made up in London are Simon Briggs, Daniel Gal, Amanda Jennings and James McNally. Gal is a member of the firm’s disputes practice while the other three are corporate lawyers.
The firm has also promoted five to the partnership in New York, three in Washington DC, and one each in Albany, Almaty, Boston, Milan, Moscow and Warsaw. They will take up their positions at the beginning of January.
Dewey Ballantine and LeBoeuf Lamb first mooted the idea of merger in summer with the deal sealed by 1 October. The firm is currently in the process of moving to shared accommodation in bases including London and New York with all moves scheduled to complete by June next year.
