Withy King swallows Oxford’s Marshall & Galpin” />South West firm Withy King has merged with Oxford-based Marshall & Galpin.
Withy King was ranked at number 141 in The Lawyer’s UK 200 Annual Report 2008 after posting turnover of £13.3m at the 2007-08 year end.
The tie-up with Marshall & Galpin will add a further £2.7m to Withy King’s turnover, putting the £16m combined firm between southeast firm Matthew Arnold & Baldwin with turnover of £16.1m, and Scotland’s Morton Fraser, at £15.8m.
In July, Withy King managing partner Martin Powell (pictured) told The Lawyer: “Mergers and acquisitions are very much the order of the day” (see story, 14 July).
Powell said the deal would give Withy King a base from which to expand its commercial practice in Oxford.
“We are constantly looking for opportunities for growth and to expand our client base across the South of England, particularly in and around the M4 corridor,” Powell said.
“We see Oxford and the Thames Valley as an area that provides excellent opportunities for further growth in both the private client and commercial sectors.”
The enlarged firm will be known as Withy King from this week.
